Identify the exact Ford plan

Find the plan name, provider, contract number and purchase price on the agreement. An extended service plan covering repairs and a maintenance plan covering scheduled service are different products. List each one separately if you intend to cancel more than one.

Check the administrator instead of assuming the Ford name on the building settles the question. If the contract identifies Protective or another third party, follow its process. Ask the selling dealer for a complete replacement copy if you only have a finance-office summary.

Read the national terms and your state amendment

Ford publishes sample contract terms with cancellation provisions and state-specific amendments. A sample is useful for locating the relevant sections but is not a substitute for your purchased version. Compare the form identifier and dates before relying on it.

Ask how early cancellation, usage, claims and fees are treated under your agreement. Also verify the coverage start date and mileage baseline; those may not equal the date and mileage when you purchased an extension. Have the administrator explain the formula before comparing estimates.

Use the selling dealer’s actual process

Flood Ford provides a VIN-based cancellation or transfer entry point for plans sold through its group. That is a dealer-specific route, not a universal Ford consumer portal. Use it only after confirming it matches the seller of your plan.

Damerow Ford publishes a different workflow involving an initial request followed by DocuSign. Its page also describes payoff documentation and its own processing expectations. These examples demonstrate why the correct dealer matters; they do not establish identical procedures for other dealerships.

Prepare the packet for your reason

Ask the dealer which form and signatures are required, where to submit them and how receipt will be acknowledged. If an electronic signing step is promised, check that you actually receive and complete it. An initial web inquiry may not be the final cancellation.

For a sale or trade-in, keep the dated odometer record and transaction documents. For a paid-off loan, obtain the lender’s confirmation in the accepted format. Check the requested effective date before signing and retain the final completed packet.

Confirm cancellation before waiting for money

Ask whether the administrator shows the plan as active, pending or canceled. Record the effective date and approved amount. If the dealer is issuing payment, ask for the payee and expected issue date separately.

The practical lesson is to verify the received request and status instead of treating an elapsed waiting period as evidence of progress.

Review the calculation and final credit

Compare the contract price, coverage start, accepted cancellation mileage and permitted deductions with the refund statement. If you sold the car earlier, ask whether the accepted effective date matches the supported sale date.

For financed coverage, establish whether the refund goes to a lender and how a closed loan will be handled. Keep the payment record with the cancellation notice. A refund approved by the administrator is not complete until it reaches the correct recipient.
